Paro

Paro is one of the most picturesque and culturally rich towns in Bhutan, nestled in a lush valley along the Paro Chhu River. Surrounded by pine forests, snow-capped mountains, and fertile farmlands, Paro is often considered the spiritual gateway to Bhutan. It is home to Bhutan's only international airport, and its architectural elegance is evident in its ancient dzongs and temples.

The most iconic landmark of Paro (and Bhutan) is the Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang), which is perched dramatically on a cliff at an altitude of 3,000 meters. The trek to the monastery is a spiritual journey in itself, offering breathtaking views of the valley. Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong) is another magnificent fortress-monastery that dominates the town's landscape with its white-washed walls and intricate wood carvings.

The town's main street is lined with traditional wooden houses, small shops, and restaurants, offering a glimpse into the local way of life. Nearby, the Ta Dzong (National Museum) houses a rich collection of Bhutanese art and artifacts. The Paro valley is also known for its historic temples like Kyichu Lhakhang and the scenic Chele La Pass, which offers panoramic views of the Himalayas.
